Sophia Bush is the host of Work In Progress, a podcast highlighting inspirational people from various backgrounds, the stories of how they’ve made it to where they are today, and where they think they’re still going. Squarespace provides listeners a home for all Work In Progress content, such as episodes, guest highlights, and ecommerce offerings.

When it came to building my website with Squarespace, it was really important for me to figure out how to make the navigation feel instinctual and natural. How could we take people exactly where they want to go in the simplest way possible? You want people to know exactly who you are and what you believe in the minute they arrive.

Q&A with Sophia Bush, host of Work in Progress

How did you find your way into podcasts?

I started to look at my priorities: what was getting me out of bed in the morning and what was keeping me up at night. For me, there are things that are simply unavoidable. I couldn't stop checking the news and reading stats about what was happening around the globe. I am a complete data nerd. I love to do research and I love to learn about people. I'm the person at parties who people tell their problems to. I've leaned into these two passions—data and people—to create this thing.

What’s your advice to people wanting to launch something of their own?

I think we all, especially those of us in creative industries, need to take a little bit of the pressure off ourselves. Perfectionism is a trap. In fact, it’s the cruelest joke that we as humans play on ourselves because perfect is impossible. At some point every idea that we look at as being great now was just an idea and somebody probably failed a few times along the way to getting it right. I think it's OK to return to the drawing board over and over again.

Whatever it is that you do, you have the right to take up space and build your doorway to welcome people into your world.

Why is an online presence so important?

It’s an opportunity to take up space in a positive way. You can be a source for trusted information, you can be a light for inspiration, you can be a hub of creativity; whatever it is that you do, you have the right to take up space and build your doorway to welcome people into your world.

What can Squarespace do for anyone wanting to start a business?

If you’re a creator or running a small business, it’s an incredible moment in time. Traditionally it was so hard to start a business and I think the online world has leveled the playing field. It's given so many more opportunities to people who historically have been kept out of small business and even big business for that matter.
